Duppy Gun originator, Roolings Muzik instigator, visionary engineer, deejay & general menace on the mic I Jahbar unites with serial Indo-Californian heavyhitter Kush Arora (Bokeh Versions / Club Yeke / Dutty Artz) for the armoured, high-grade detonation of vocal / riddim outing ‘Spies On Me / Eyes On Me’.
Enforcing the lurk and deluge of industrial drill, occult grime and restless bashment in Arora’s production, I Jahbar relates scenes of sinister surveillance and subterfuge, of getaways and informers in the area, unleashing bars which more than equal his finest turns as part of the Duppy Gun crew, and on previous productions by the likes of Seekers International, Blazer Sound System, Smurphy & DJ Velkro. For the instrumental riddim, Arora adds laser-guided 303-esque FX to the heft and havoc of the original, making for an innovative version excursion that could still be rattling from sound systems in 2050.
Connecting Arora’s endless appetite for experimentation with I Jahbar’s ruthless vocal prowess, as well as his illustrious pedigree as the nephew of Roydel Anthony Johnson aka Congo Ashanti Roy (The Congos / Ras Michael & The Sons of Negus), ‘Spies On Me / Eyes On Me’ makes for an inspired collaborative transmission from this new San Franciscan / Jamaican axis. On the vocal, I Jahbar has time for dedications to Brooklyn and Bristol, but the inherent damage of ‘Spies On Me / Eyes On Me’ is international.
